History

PSG was founded in 1978 by Mr. Gaetan Fortin and Mr. Claude Roy in St-Georges, Quebec, Canada.
At the time, the two partners had a pool retail business on 1st Avenue in St-Georges. In order to better occupy the fall and winter seasons, they decided to start selling wood stoves. The demand for this type of product was rising and although they had a great success in terms of retail sales, they experienced major difficulties in obtaining adequate supply from manufacturers. As a result, they decided to start manufacturing their own wood stoves in 1978. They established their manufacturing operation in a commercial building located in St-Georges (from which comes the name PSG - Poêles St-Georges). Their model Baron was the first wood stove ever introduced by PSG. Came after the Paysan and Colonial. The success was almost instantaneous and the two partners had to move into a new facility. They established their operations in an industrial building located in La Guadeloupe, where the PSG installations are still located today.

From 1985 to 2004, the Company's ownership structure changed frequently. The Grondin Family (Gilles and Denis) were the main shareholders during that period. It is between the mid-80s and mid-90s that the range of PSG wood furnaces was first introduced. The first wood furnace, the PSG2000, was launched in 1984. Came shortly after many models of wood-oil and wood-electric combination furnaces, which today still represent PSG's main market niche. It is in 2002 that PSG introduced its Caddy, the first furnace in the world to meet the EPA Emissions Standard.

In 2004, PSG was sold to SBI (Stove Builder International Inc.) Some important changes were brought to the manufacturing installations and today, PSG operates in a state-of-the-art facility. Since the acquisition by SBI, the PSG products have enjoyed enormous success outside of Quebec and now benefit from a well established North American distribution network.
